The mid-1800s were a time of great turmoil for Wisconsin Indians; therefore this curriculum focuses on this period. During this time, Wisconsin Indians faced enormous changes in their culture as a result of European and Yankee settlers taking their lands, and trying to Christianize and anglicize them. The curriculum includes activities designed to give the cultures a context, and therefore discusses some aspects of pre-European contact life. In-School Programs on this topic are also available.
Grades 2-6
You will be re-directed to the virtual exhibit, A.K.A. Houdini.
It is our hope that you can use the subject of Houdini as a “hook” to engage students in an exploration of larger issues such as scientific principles involved in magic and urbanization. This curriculum is a compliment to the exhibit AKA Houdini at The History Museum and the corresponding virtual exhibit. In-School Programs on this topic are also available.
Grades 4-8
You will be re-directed to the virtual exhibit, Call to Duty.
The curriculum addresses several facets of World War II study and coordinates with the social studies curriculum for the Appleton public school system. It provides insight into the experiences of Outagamie County residents during the World War II era, and seeks to connect those experiences to nation-wide themes.
