Moving Image Use and Reproduction Policies

The History Museum at the Castle both lends and sells video footage for a variety of purposes. The following policies detail the steps necessary to view, borrow, or purchase video materials and the charges to both for-profit and non-profit parties. The History Museum cannot copy materials for which the Museum does not own the copyright.

How to View Copies

All History Museum holdings recorded in VHS format can be viewed at the Museum. Materials in 8mm or BETA format must be converted to digital format in order to be viewed. The client pays this cost.

Use Fees

Per-minute fees for use of moving image materials are based on the market for which the materials are intended. Separate rates are quoted for "for-profit" and for "non-profit" groups. Portions of minutes are charged for the next whole minute. These license fees cover only one production use. Per-minute fees are waived for restricted personal in-home use.

The following fees are in addition to reproduction costs, handling fees and postage, which are based on the cost of these procedures to The History Museum.

Personal In-Home Use:	Per-minute charges are waived, however, reproduction, handling, and postage fees still apply
Local Market:	Fee per-minute or portion thereof
Non-Profit	$5.00
For-Profit	$25.00
National Market	Fee per-minute or portion thereof
Non-Profit	$50.00
For-Profit	$100.00

Special Conditions and Fees

Rush orders will be assessed a 100% surcharge on The History Museum's reproduction charges and handling costs.

When The History Museum's materials are used in a production, the Museum must be credited and supplied with two complimentary copies of the final product, including all episodes of multi-episode productions. The format of the copy will be determined by The History Museum.
