All tours start in front of the museum (330 E College Ave) unless otherwise specified. Each tour lasts approximately 1.5 - 2 hours at a moderate pace.

Hometown Houdini, on the Social Station!

Hop on the Social Station (a 15 seat mega-cycle) for a guided tour of the sites associated with the myths and reality of Houdini’s life in Appleton. We will explore his brief life in Appleton by visiting where his childhood home once stood, sites of fictional magical feats, and his father’s synagogue. Learn more about the Social Station here:

Asylum Revisited Walking Tour

The land behind Brewster Village looks like an empty field, but it once supported a towering brick facility, outbuildings, and acres of farmland to sustain the Outagamie County Asylum. Using historic maps and photographs, we will reconstruct the asylum grounds as we imagine stepping inside resident housing, visit the site of an act of arson, and explore the community that once lived and worked there.

…Open the doors and learn about the people who built and worshiped in Appleton. Join us on a pilgrimage as we explore some of the most significant architecture and influential congregations that shaped Appleton. We will touch on many of the religions represented in Appleton and even explore the inside of some our grandest houses of worship.

Appleton in the Great War Walking Tour

This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the last year of World War I. Join us as we walk the historic grounds of Riverside and St. Joseph’s Cemeteries, and remember the courage and ultimate sacrifice of Appleton’s Company A – 150th Machine Gun Battalion, during The Great War. We will meet in the front of Riverside Cemetery and conclude the tour in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A pair of good walking shoes is recommended!

Where Everybody Knows Your Name: Part I – Pub Crawl

Put on your walking shoes for a pub crawl of East College Avenue’s historic taverns. The tour will stop inside four bars and highlight others noted for their individuality and preservation. Pull up a stool inside taverns frequented by Sen. Joseph McCarthy, admire Victorian back bars, and hear the stories and gossip behind each location. Price does not include drinks.

Where Everybody Knows Your Name: Part II – Pub Crawl

We can’t forget about the taverns of West College Avenue! This tour will focus on breweries and drinking establishments on W. College and Walnut Street. We’ll stop inside four bars and discuss the what makes each one special to Appleton—and historic. Price does not include drinks.

SOLD OUT Spiritualists, Hauntings, & Urban Legends Walking Tour

Do you believe in ghosts? Candlelight will guide our journey of hauntings, séances, and downright creepy unexplained events. We will visit the site of a haunted brewery, spooky office tower, and other ghostly visions, and perhaps catch a glimpse of Charlie, Irving, or Madam Lottie. Not for the faint of heart.
