Join the History Museum for a fun series of walking tours focusing on local history. There is no better way to explore our region than learning about the past and present in this interactive series. ​​​​​​

Pre-registration for all tours is required. All tours start in front of the museum (330 E College Ave) at 6:00 PM unless otherwise specified. Each tour lasts approximately 1-1.5 hours at a moderate pace.

May 11 - Castle Curious

Have you ever wanted to know more about our Castle? Discover secret symbols, peep holes, and the history of this former Masonic Temple. Ticket purchase includes a guided tour and self-guided visit to the Museum's current exhibits. 
This tour will take place inside the History Museum at the Castle. Meet outside the front door.

May 25 - Scandal! Appleton Jailbreaks, Bootleggers, and Murders

Join us for a walk on Appleton's wild side. Learn about murderers, chicken fighting ringleaders, and general miscreants who left their mark on downtown Appleton. 

June 15 - Jones Park and the Old Third Ward

​Take a stroll through the neighborhood surrounding Jones Park as we explore some local landmarks and past residents of Appleton's Old Third Ward.

Meet at the entrance to Jones Park on Lawrence Street.

July 13 - "Song of the Pioneers": Founding the Outagamie County Pioneer Association

​The first meeting of the Outagamie County Pioneer Association took place in 1872. This organization lives on today as the History Museum at the Castle. Take a look at Appleton as these early members saw it 150 years ago.

July 27 - On the Street Where You Live (Cemetery Tour)

Learn about the people Appleton streets are named after as you walk through Riverside Cemetery. 
Meet at the entrance to Riverside Cemetery (714 N Owaissa St) and park in the lot across the street.

August 17 - Downtown Remodeled: Then and Now

Downtown Appleton has seen many renovations, remodels, and additions in recent years. Join us as we reminisce about Downtown Appleton of years past. 

September 7 - Cold War Era Appleton Bike Tour

Hop on your bike and join us to explore what industry, childhood, home life, and politics in Appleton were like during the Cold War Era. 
Attendees are required to wear helmets and provide their own bicycle and helmet. We will abide by all traffic laws related to bicyclists during this tour.

September 28 - Prohibition Pub Crawl

It has been over 100 years since Prohibition began. Put on your walking shoes for a pub crawl of downtown Appleton’s historic taverns to learn how these businesses and Appleton residents responded to this new law.  Price does not include drinks.
Meet outside the patio at Spats (733 W College Ave). 

October 19 - Museum After Dark

​Explore the spooky, creepy, and gory oddities of the History Museum's collection as you are guided by flashlight through the Museum after dark.
