Whet Your Appetite!

Discover the origins of the area’s most iconic food traditions, including fish fries, brandy old fashioneds, frozen custard, lager beer and sausages! Learn how historical and contemporary immigration shaped our area’s menus. Spear a sturgeon in a virtual shanty! Tell us about your favorite food traditions. Take home a recipe or two.

Best of all, visitors are able to dig in to portions of the exhibit, trying their hand at sturgeon spearing in a life-size virtual ice shanty; selecting a market basket of nutritious food items from the Farm Market stand; exploring the contents of vintage cupboards, and collecting recipes for iconic local foods.

Memorabilia from many long-time and some up-and-coming food vendors are represented in the exhibit, from pizza purveyors to drive-ins, food trucks and supper clubs.
