ABOUT THE MURAL

Chad Brady

With a Little Help From My Friends

Completed on August 7, 2015 during Mile of Music

Artist Statement: All living creatures on the planet get by because they are part of an interconnected ecosystem, existing together on the same level. In this mural, a nattily dressed fox – the animal which has come to represent the region we call “home” – is out on his bicycle, riding with a little help from some pelicans, recently relocated inhabitants of the Fox River. Even the background of the mural grounds it in this specific place: stand back and notice how the colors blend with the surrounding trees and sky outside the alley.

This project was part of an effort to beautify a once bleak space into a bright testament to public art. The mural also coincides with the opening of Shifting Gears: A Cyclical History of Badger Bicycling (November 4, 2015). Chad's whimsical creation is a dramatic celebration of bicycling as a way to engage the local environment and Fox River system.
