Company D

Men of Appleton's Company D fought the Japanese in New Guinea. They flew from Port Moresby over the Owen Stanley Mountains to Buna in December 1942. The men supported advancing American and Australian troops by attacking the enemy with machine gun fire and mortar explosions. Company D helped push Japanese soldiers out of Buna by the end of January 1943.
